About

Interior Design by Diana Weininger

Born and raised in Jerusalem, I have a passion for the diverse local architecture. However, I'm just as excited to find a cool light fixture or choose the perfect handle! With a background in fashion and graphic design, I've passionately focused on interiors, giving an intuitive take on contemporary Mediterranean aesthetics. My work translates people’s wishes, taste and needs into unique environments; homes that promote self-expression and individuality, respectfully communicating personality and life style. I aspire to create soulful interiors, spaces of well-being and inspiration, echoing an inner world through the physical one.

This 30 sqm apartment in Jaffa, Israel was completely renovated with the intent of achieving all desirable functions of a full size apartment at a high end. It is a vacation apartment located near the beach, and the design vision was of a cozy urban suite, with modern yet warm Mediterranean chic.
The original layout of 2 small rooms was transformed to a loft, and divided into a living-dining-sleeping area open plan, along a unique shaped shower room with a round marine-style window. A height of over 3 meters was discovered after demolition of the old recessed ceilings, giving the tiny place a specious feeling.

Large tiles used in the open space as well as in the shower, Concrete and Corten steel like, give a vast feeling, alongside small, glazed tiles in Terra-cotta and Sage, infusing elegance with a romantic touch. The bathroom design is inspired by local Hammam tradition with a spa twist interpretation. It accommodates the washer/dryer, linen and utility closet, and the kitchen is fully equipped with a stylish mini fridge, oven and cooktop, integrated dish-washer and abundant counter tops and storage.
A niche behind a large mirror push door conceals the electric board while accentuating natural light, seemingly enlarging the space. Custom Birch plywood carpentry was designed throughout the apartment, maximizing storage while creating a calm and coherent visual effect. The bathroom door and the wardrobe are concealed in a plywood covered wall.

Lighting used in this project is mostly minimalist, however a ceiling fan doubles as the bed area light and a big straw lampshade gives the sitting area some warmth. A mix of young Ikea furniture along more sophisticated pieces such as the leather upholstered bar stools, fuchsia wool rug and rich curtains create a mature yet funky look.
